Directing is about more than just story

Collaborative Leadership

Directing is as much about working well with one’s team as it is about story. Keegan has proven herself to be a great team leader and a director who thrives on collaborating with her crew. Seen here with 1st AD Michael Bishop on the set of her most recent movie. (Photo: Craig Minielly)

Meet My Mother - A thriller for A&E

Keegan loves storytelling in general, but has a special feel for thrillers and genre - perhaps from having worked on so many over her 20+ years as an actor. For her these types of shows allow creative license to play with visuals, angles and tones to enhance the emotional feel of the show.  Working with a stellar cast including Sarah Jane Redmond (above), Erin Boyes and Madison Smith was a wonderful experience - especially as Keegan loves working with the actors to help craft the best performance for all.

Exploring the possibilities of Virtual Production

    WORKING IN THE VOLUME

Keegan was thrilled to be part of the DGC training initiative that allowed her to shoot on the virtual stage. She used the experience to play with what would feel incongruous in the vastness of the desert. Inspired by this exciting technology, she’s exploring further training to explore its myriad possibilities.

      a director in action

Some  BTS video of Keegan in action, directing a camera rehearsal on the set of her second feature length movie ‘Love Makes Scents’ (2021) One of Keegan’s favorite things about directing is its inherently collaborative nature and she loves being part of a creative team.

Love Makes Scents is a romantic comedy that brought a little Paris to the Vancouver film scene - which Keegan, who spent years there and is fluent in French, truly loved creating with her crew!

      Cradle will fall (2020) Director

      Cradle Will Fall

Shot during the  coronavirus pandemic, this full- length feature aired in 2021 on A&E/Lifetime.   A young mother awakens one morning to discover her baby daughter missing and she will stop at nothing to find her child. Starring Ali Leibert and Kirsten Robek (Reel One Entertainment)

      Directorial Shadowing

      Shadowing The Magicians

      Shannon Kohli - The Magicians

In her first official, full-episode shadow, Keegan learned at the side of rapidly rising director Shannon Kohli, whose credits include Motherland, Supergirl and The Magicians, among others.

Chris Fisher - EP, The Magicians

Chris Fisher has been extremely gracious in allowing Keegan to shadow him on multiple episodes across several seasons, including the season finales. He continues to support Keegan as she positions herself for this next phase of her career.

Stephen Jackson - Sirens, Once Upon a Time

After 20+ years on set, Keegan recognizes the vital role that the Director of Photography plays and how important the relationship between the DOP and the director is to a successful shoot, so shadowing Jackson, with whom she worked for 6 season on Once, was a natural choice.

      On-going

Extremely confident in her skills in script analysis and her innate ability to work with and speak the language of actors, Keegan continues to hone her technical skills through course work,  study and further shadowing.

      The Girl/La Fille

After twenty years of telling stories in front of the camera, Keegan has decided to continue her storytelling journey behind it for a change.

      .

Keegan's award-winning  short film 'The Girl/La Fille' is a story about a young girl who discovers a magical cabinet in the forest which transports her to 1920s France.

Written, directed and produced by Keegan Connor Tracy, it was co-produced by Ashley Alexander and Kendall Cross. Shot in anamorphic on ARRI Alexa by DOP Stewart Whelan, this film captures the magic and curiosity of childhood fairytales and features the lush beauty of British Columbia's  forest landscapes.
